The DANCE CENTRE provides a wide range of solo-and-partner dance. It is an ideal place to meet your dance needs. It combines solo dance (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, etc) with Jazz Unlimited (jazzunlimited@xtra.co.nz), and partner dance options with Planet Dance (Ballroom and Latin, Salsa, Argentine Tango, Latin Rock, Bachata, Merengue, Rock n Roll, etc)

From Beginners to Advanced, we provide professional teaching, usable skills, stylish moves, fully graded programmes, and a great atmosphere, with fun, safety, and excellent value for money. Learn to lead and follow for social dancing. You can usually start at any time. We provide casual classes & courses. You don’t have to bring a partner. Private lessons available (for weddings too). Visiting teachers from around NZ and overseas. And exciting Shows. Join the fun & learn the dances sweeping the world. No experience is needed. Learn to lead and follow for social dancing. Learn one or more dance styles. Performances, parties, practices, & appraisals. Your goals might be social dancing, new friends, general and dance fitness, weight loss, basic or advanced training, performances, shows, certificates and competitions. We can assist you with all of them.

(5) LATIN ROCK WORKSHOPS: Saturday, 26 April, by Planet Dance, at 169 London St, Hamilton (+ dance party that night - see below). Come and find out what Latin Rock REALLY is. It’s a new and very different form of Modern Jive, with systematic footwork, skilled leading and following, subtle rhythms, and delightful moves. It’s a really cool dance, and worth the effort to learn.

(7) PREPARATION COURSES for the ‘NZ STREET/ LATIN DANCE FESTIVAL’: 9 week courses.

(a) Salsa: every Friday from 28 March at 9.00 pm (169 London St), or

every Monday from 31 March at 6.30 pm (Wesley Methodist Hall, Heaphy Tce, Hamilton East), or

(b) Argentine Tango: every Friday from 28 March at 6.30-7.30 pm (169 London St), or

every Monday from 31 March at 8.30-9.30 pm (Wesley Methodist Hall, Heaphy Tce, Hamilton East)

every Sunday from 30 March at 5.30 pm (169 London St), or

Course cost: $90 for one class/wk ($77 full-time students)

$165 for 2 classes/wk ($142 full-time students)

(8) COMPETITIONS & PERFORMANCES

There are competitions and performance opportunities for individuals, couples, and teams, over Queen’s Birthday weekend at the 2008 NZ Street/ Latin Dance Festival (at the Founders Theatre in Hamilton), and at the combined JAZZ Unlimited and Planet Dance Christmas Show in early December (at the Founders Theatre in Hamilton).

If you can dance SALSA (or other Street Latin styles), Modern Jive, Argentine Tango, Latin (e.g. Rumba, Samba), Jazz, Hip Hop, etc, there will be opportunities for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced dancers to strut their stuff.

(9) Provider of official preparation courses for

(a) the NZ Pacific Salsa Congress. The Congress is held during Easter in Wellington. Planet Dance will run 7-week Salsa preparation courses prior to it in Hamilton. Successful completion means cheaper Congress tickets, and more fun when you’re there.

Days and dates: Sundays beginning 3 February for 7 weeks, & Mondays beginning 4 February for 7 weeks.
